"Monsters"

I wasn’t planning on writing this poem today, but after two shootings in one day, I couldn’t hold back anymore.

"Monsters"

Monsters are lurking amongst us
Most hiding amongst the shadows
Some are proudly worn like armor.
A parasite that is continuing to grow.
Fed by the growing tumor of hatred
A cancer spread through the screens.
A magazine fully loaded with anger.
Unleashed among chaotic screams.
Their blood splattered on the walls.
Empty shells scattered on the floor.
As the news breaks, staring in shock.
Another day, another story of gore.
Monsters are walking among us.
With their manifestos and creeds
They wear their demons like armor.
Hailed as a martyr for their deeds.
We are now on a downward spiral
Into a future of hatred and anarchy.
Divided we are, continuing to fall
As we lose all touch with humanity.
No longer love; fear thy neighbor
We have lost sight of what matters.
The fires of hope snuffed by hate
A gun shot causes peace to shatter.
Monsters are no longer ashamed.
Unfiltered and raw as they rally.
A nation torn asunder by alienation
Is now a realm of shooting galleries.
