"A Demon In The Bottle"

I find myself sitting at the dining room table in a dark, deserted house. I sit where in the light coming in from the streetlight coming into the dining room. I rub the label of an empty whiskey bottle, a reminder of everything I once had and lost due to my old way of life. I chose alcohol over the greatest drug: true love. There was truly evil spirits in every bottle, and that demon was the person I became when drunk.
I tried a few times to try to get back with her, but she is done with me. She moved on once the divorce papers were signed. The last time I contacted her, she told to never contact her again. If she was worth it, I would have stopped drinking when she asked, not after she left. She told me she found someone else who doesn't need to be drunk to love her, and she doesn't need me back in her life, sober or not.
Out of frustration, I toss the bottle into the wall, and watch it shatter, the shards twinkle like fallen stars on the tile floor. The last remnant of my old life is gone forever, but the memories sealed within these walls remain. I may have conquered the evilness inside of me, but there are glimpses of the angel that once lived inside these walls. An angel that I pushed away, and made her life a living hell. I became her malignant spirit that made her leave this place, and spread her wings.
I push away from the table, and grab my keys off the kitchen counter. I need to get some fresh air before I go back against what I've worked so hard to avoid. I wonder if he's awake at this time of the night as I pull out of the driveway. I need his guidance more then ever. Even though he's only my AA sponsor, he's become my savior. If it wasn't for him, I would have ended my life the day she left me.
I pull into his driveway, and see he's sitting on his porch in his green bathrobe smoking a cigarette.
As I get out of my car, he asks, "Still can't get her off your mind, eh?"
I nod my head as I sigh, "If those walls could talk." I step onto the porch and state, "I did finally break that old bottle though."
"Over a year, and you finally get rid it?" he asks with a look of worry in his green eyes as he runs his fingers through his gray hair.
I sit down and explain, "I was keeping it as a memento, but tonight, it made me crave a drink even more."
"I still think you should sell the house, and move on. It's been at least a year," the man states.
            "I know, but.."
"If you hold onto to that house, then you'll never move on," the man interrupts. "She left, and there's no way to get her back. Living with those memories will only drag you down."
I nod my head and stand up. "You're right. Besides, it's too big of a place for only one person."
"To be honest, I'm surprised she didn't get it during the divorce."
"She didn't want it, and I now see why," I sigh. "Thanks for the chat. Have a good night."
            "You too."
I step off the porch, and head back to the car. I drive away more depressed then before. All I can think about is driving to the nearest bar, and getting drunk. If she's gone for good, then I can't think of a good reason to stay sober. I went sober in a foolish hope she would come back to me, but she's gone for good. As I see the sign for my old bar, I decide that I'm going to drink away the pain tonight.
As I pull into the parking lot, I rip off my AA chip, and toss it into my glove box. I get out of the car, and head towards the door without second thoughts. I'm done with her and sobriety. Tonight, I go back to numbing myself with whiskey. If I can't live happily, I might as well block out the pain the only way I know how.
As I get outside the front door, I stop when I see a man puking out his guts all over the sidewalk.  As I smell the bile infused with beer, I gag and step back. The odor alone makes me realize the mistake I'm about to do. I refuse to let the demon out of the bottle again.I head back to my car, and pull out of the bar.
The drive home is long and uneventful. There isn't another soul on the road, save a few cop cars parked outside a donut shop. Within a few miles of home on a country road, I finally see another car heading towards me. I think nothing of it as I keep driving towards my destination.
As the other vehicle gets within a few hundred yards, I realize they are speeding, and keep swerving. I focus on the car as I prepare to take action. As the lights get brighter, I start honking as it keeps swerving into my lane. The driver accelerates, and drifts into my lane. I hold down my horn as I slowly begin driving onto the shoulder to avoid a collision.
I begin to think that the other driver is drunk, and I'm about to be killed by them. All my years of drinking, I thought I would cause an accident, but I never did. Now, completely sober, I'm going to be seriously injured or killed due to alcohol if this driver doesn't stop. I keep slowly down, and they keep stepping on the gas, their car inching closer and closer towards me
Suddenly, the driver tries to overcorrect to get back into their lane. The car turns right into my direction of travel, the engine revving as I slam on my brakes. Through their windshield, I see my ex-wife watch in horror as she slams head-on into my car, a bottle of whiskey pinned to the steering wheel in her left hand. The last thing I hear is the sound of screeching metal, and breaking glass as the world goes black.

"Piece of Tail"

Woke up smelling like poo
Wondering what did I do
As I found myself in a cell
My wife was giving me hell
I barely remember anything
From my wild drinking binge
Something about Mexico
And watching a donkey show
While doing shots of tequila
With a hottie named Margarita
Passed out after the twentieth shot
Came to wearing only one sock
In the middle of a cow pasture
My face covered in fresh manure
With the barrel of a shotgun
Glistening in the morning sun
Pointed dead center at my chest
By an old farmer wearing a dress
What happened next, I won't say
Will take this secret to the grave
I kept running and never stopped
Till I was surrounded by the cops
Needless to say, they tossed me
Into this small prison cell at county
My wife never posted my damn bail
Now, I'm Bubba's new piece of tail

“The Supposed Prize”

Caught between opposing sides
A woman’s heart is the supposed prize
Yet she has already made her choice
She is with whom she loves the most
This has not been taken very well
Many make her life a living hell
Her lover is not liked by the others
Blood is spilled between brothers
Now outcasted by family and friends
Over a romance that will never end
A romance that will bear a child
From nights of passion running wild
Alas, violence will not be a stranger
Father’s life is in constant danger
And every night, while the child sleeps
In the darkness, the mother will weep
As in her heart, she will silently pray
That the father will be safe one day
That all the fighting will come to an end
Their safety he will not have to defend

“For The Working Classes”

For liberty they cried
For sovereignty they died
A machine gun's steady brattle
Slaughtered them like cattle
No warnings or ultimatums
The loyal soldiers slayed them
They all watched and laughed
They enjoyed the blood bath
For our freedom we rallied
For sovereignty we forged allies
Our brethren will have retribution
As we rise up to start a revolution
Government has no right to enslave
And not expect us to rise up enraged
They hide behind their fortress of power
Casting down laws from their ivory tower
Trying to overrun us with their Gestapo
Not even engaging genocide will stop us
We will not stop till the government falls
And we tore down every single wall
For independence we started a war
For democracy we raided the shores
They think they can end this with peace
As the blood of comrades stained the streets
A year later, and the last battle is won
Order has been restored to the nation
The people have regained all control
Rights have been restored to every soul
A single idea lit the wildfires of reform
Out of the chaos, a new nation was born
A Utopia has rising out of the cease-fire
Like a mighty phoenix from the fire
Sadly, I lost my fight with the crown
Despite my body being in the ground
For a new nation I sacrificed my life
For this generation I did what was right
The country is again for the working classes
And not the fat, greedy Socialist masses

"Words"

A blank Word page
Matches a blank mind
Not sure if it's boredom
Or my sheer exhaustion
Deleting anything I start
Words are my enemies
They are now rebelling
Muddling coherent plots
Refusing to form paragraphs
Even a sentence is a struggle
Poetry is the only thing working
Hoping I can get them to behave
So I can get closer to my goal
Then again, words aren't the enemy
The lack of focus is my nemesis
As I stare at a blank page
With a totally blank mind
It's not exhaustion or boredom
Just unable to express my soul
Using words like I did before

"Through One's Eyes"

Silence, complete silence
An oddity in today’s' society
No ring tones or Ipods
Just a man sitting on a bench
Completely lost in his thoughts
No status updates or Tweets
No steady clicks of the keyboard
He writes them down on paper
An archaic device to many
A primitive recording system
He doesn't care what they think
He's living the way he wants
He keeps writing on his pad
Slowly capturing his mind
As he sees life through his eyes
As everyone around him
They stare in complete shock
That he's not using electronics
Or even posting it on social media
They talk about obsolete systems
Whispers about not sharing it online
The guy pays them no mind
If it worked for our ancestors
It still works for modern society
A young man approaches the bench
And begins talking to the old man
A few hours later, the young man
Realizes that he made a greater bond
Then he ever has through the screen
As the man is about to leave
He finally sees the written notes
All it simply stated is as follows:
"Life is meant to be seen through one's eyes
Not through the clicking of keyboards"

"Flushed and Feeling Relieved"

It's scary how I can be in a writing mood, but I stare at a blank page for hours uncertain what to write. Then again, even if I have an idea on what I'm going to write, I always have issues with the beginnings. I can have all the notes in the world about the piece, and that first paragraph eludes me. Sometimes, it takes me a day to even begin the first sentence.
Even though I wasn't planning on updating this blog tonight, but I figured writing something is better then nothing. I was plan on writing something a little more serious, but I couldn't find a beginning that would lead into the next chapter, a good short story, or even a poem. Mentally, I'm avoiding poetry due to being more focused on a novel, but it's sad when my mind can't even do that much without going blank.
Oddly, as I sit here rambling, an idea is forming. Too bad it's not the next chapter, but something worth posting. This is the main reason I keep this blog. If I'm stuck, I can start writing something for here, and my mind normally breaks free. As I said in the past, "A blog is really a place to flush the mind of random thoughts so you can focus. The literally equivalent of taking a really good shit."
My last thought before I try to start on something else. I see a lot of page views, but very comments. I begin to wonder if the adult content scares the readers from commenting, or people are afraid to speak their minds. It's a public forum. If I posted here, don't be afraid to speak your mind. Besides, if I didn't want to know what people think I wouldn't post this online.
